2008 Downtown Photo Competition
Thank you to everyone who participated in the first annual Downtown Photo Challenge! Close to 200 images were submitted as part of challenge's first year!The Downtown Photo Challenge was a two month long summer competition sponsored by the Downtown Cleveland Alliance with support from Cleveland Public Art, The Plain Dealer, PlayhouseSquare, Dollar Bank and Dodd Camera. The contest asked participants to showcase their experience and perspective of the life and environment in Downtown Cleveland. Of the multitude of unique and fantastic perspectives that were
entered, we are excited to announce that the top three photographs have been selected.
The selection of the following photographs was the result of the votes cast by the Downtown Photo Challenge's panel of judges, which included:
- Bill Gugliotta, The Plain Dealer Director of Photography;
- Bob Herbst, Bob Herbst Photography
- Lillian Kuri, Director of Special Projects, The Cleveland Foundation;
- Mary Jo Toles, Cleveland Institute of Art Professor of Photography; and
- Howard Tucker, Mort Tucker Photography.

DCA looks forward to growing the Downtown Photo Challenge each year. We hope you will participate again in 2009 and encourage others to do so as well. Check out the slideshow below to see what others submitted and to inspire your future photographic endeavors.
You can also see these images on the Dollar Bank Regional Showcase board at the Galleria throughout the month of September. The top ten entries, as selected by the judges, will also be included in the rotation on the PlayhouseSquare video boards, which can be seen from Star Plaza.
